Make your own stones from polymer clay
This is a great Specialist Class open to all, from complete beginner through to more advanced abilities. No previous experience of working with polymer clay is needed.
Come along to learn how to make your own stones or beads from polymer clay. This is a one day workshop which will show you how to make your own unique cabochon type stones for setting in to jewellery. The day will start with a quick look at the basics of working with the clay. Then a couple of techniques for making unusual surface patterns will be explored. These techniques can also be easily adapted, on the day to make in to beads. Ideal for those of you who are not experienced at silver jewellery making.
What is polymer clay?
Polymer clay is a wonderful material to use. Often called by its brand names of Fimo & Sculpey. It is a specialist modelling clay that is fired in a domestic oven. Our course is aimed at total beginners and will show you how to get started.
What will we do on the day?
We will go through the basics of using polymer clay including how to get the clay ready for use, mixing colours, texturing and more. You will learn how to make specialised surface patterns and how to form the clay. We will make several stones (or beads if you are not an experienced silver jewellery maker) during the course to take home. The clay will be fired during the class in our oven. Information will be given about firing your clay at home during the course.
Using polymer clay is great fun. The possibilities are endless with this fantastic colourful material. This class is ideal for anyone who loves stone setting. It is also a great introduction to the fantastic versatility of polymer clay.
Materials for this day are extra and are available to buy from the studio shop. You may bring your own materials instead and advice on what to buy for the class is sent out prior to the course on request. All the tools you will need during the day are supplied in our custom built jewellery studio. Refreshments are provided and free parking is available next to the studio.
At Lunch time;
We are adjacent to the Chesterfield Canal where lunch may be purchased from the cafe or a pack up may be eaten at the picnic site. There is also a Morrisons supermarket close by with a cafe, cash point, etc. The studio is closed and locked over the lunch break and it is fine to leave any belongings if you wish.
