Daytime and evening weekly term time classes
During term time, weekly daytime and evening classes are held at Silverpetal Studio. These sessions run in 8 week ‘back to back’ blocks of afternoon (1.30-4pm) or evening sessions (6.30-9pm). These are non-directed open studio time sessions where students can progress at their own pace within a mixed ability group.
When are these classes?
Each session is for two and a half hours. Evening sessions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Daytime sessions are held on Wednesday and Thursday. Once you are enrolled on to a session you will be invited to carry on and enrol for following terms and be able to take advantage of any enrolment discounts.
If you are a beginner please book on to our Beginner’s Silver Jewellery Class. This is an induction course – set to cover the basic skills and H&S. Once you have completed the beginner’s class you will be given priority to take any empty places on these weekly classes.
If you have previously studied elsewhere and have some prior ability within the subject you are welcome to join the term time sessions, places permitting. Please email for current vacancies via ‘contact us’.
How we learn:
These sessions are not tutor led, this means they are non-directed and unstructured. However, the studio offers a workbook led learning program from post beginner right through intermediate to advanced and challenging levels. Individuals may follow this program if they wish, working at their own pace adapting the projects to suit their own tastes. Individuals may also devise their own projects and work in their own way if they have sufficient skills. For either scenario, the tutor is on hand to help at all times.
What are Specialist Classes?
View our Specialist Classes here on our general courses page. These are one day workshops, designed to run along side these weekly studio workshop sessions. This enables an optional deeper study of a specific subject area for anyone keen to learn.
What to bring:
All tools and equipment are included so you don’t need to bring tools with you. However if you do want to bring your own tools please make sure they have distinguishing marks to identify them from the studio or other student’s tools. At Silverpetal we are well equipped with our custom built jewellery making studio.
There is a vast range of metals including silver, gem-stones, findings, consumables and tools available to buy from the studio shop. Materials (like metals, solders and gem stones) and consumables (like emery paper, saw blades and drill bits) are extra and not included in the term fee. Please make sure means of payment – cash or cheque is brought to class.
These classes can be busy on occassions when full attendance occurrs. There is interaction with others in the room and some shared tools. If you decide to enrol please make sure that you bring hand sanitizer and use it frequently during the session – and disinfectant wipes to use on any tools that you use. There are also disinfectant products provided for general use within the room. Masks aren’t compulsory but please bring and wear a mask if you are in a vulnerable category.
Returning students who have studied with us in the past:
Past students are welcome to come back to us. These classes are often full due to the priority given to beginners and existing students to be able to attend on a continuous basis. Please email to apply for any vacancies via ‘contact us’. You can also join our mailing list to receive notification of any vacancies, offers, free projects, and so on.
