Daytime and evening weekly term time classes
During term time, weekly daytime and evening classes are held at Silverpetal Studio. These sessions run in 8 week ‘back to back’ blocks of afternoon (1.30-4pm) or evening sessions (6.30-9pm). These are non-directed open studio time sessions where students can progress at their own pace within a mixed ability group.
When are these classes?
Each session is for 2 and a half hours. Evening sessions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Daytime sessions are held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Once you are enrolled on to a session you will be invited to carry on and enrol for following terms and be able to take advantage of any enrolment discounts.
These are large classes of 12 so if you are a beginner please book on to our Beginner’s Silver Jewellery Class. This is a short induction course for a smaller group of 6. Beginners need more support and the smaller class size ensures that you will get plenty of one to one help. On this course you will learn the basic skills for the subject and health and safety at the studio. This will enable you to join the larger class size without any problems.
If you have some prior ability within the subject you are welcome to join the term time sessions and may join anytime by booking the relevant class to suit. If you are unsure which course would suit you best please e-mail to discuss your ability level via ‘contact us’ below.
How we learn:
These sessions are not tutor led, this means they are non-directed and unstructured. However, the studio offers a workbook led learning program from post beginner right through intermediate to advanced and challenging levels. Individuals may follow this program if they wish, working at their own pace adapting the projects to suit their own tastes. Individuals may also devise their own projects and work in their own way if they have sufficient skills. For either scenario, the tutor is on hand to help at all times.
What are Specialist Classes?
View our Specialist Classes here on our general courses page. These are one day workshops, designed to run along side these weekly studio workshop sessions. This enables an optional deeper study of a specific subject area for anyone keen to learn.
What to bring:
All tools and equipment are included so you don’t need to bring tools with you. However if you do want to bring your own tools please make sure they have distinguishing marks to identify them from the studio or other student’s tools. At Silverpetal we are well equipped with our custom built jewellery making studio. There is a vast range of metals including silver, gem-stones, findings, consumables and tools available to buy from the studio shop. Materials (like metals, solders and gem stones) and consumables (like emery paper, saw blades and drill bits) are extra and not included in the term fee. Please make sure means of payment – cash or cheque is brought to class.
A tumbling service is offered to past and present students. There is access to a tumbler at the studio. However to avoid the constant drone created by a tumbler being switched on – all the time in the room, this is done elsewhere. Items are collected at the session end – and tumbled for a small fee per item. This is then ready for collection the following week. Past students are welcome to bring items for tumbling during term times. This will be tumbled for the same fees and ready for collection one week later.
Returning students who have studied with us in the past:
Past students are always welcome to come back to us. These classes are often full due to the priority given to existing students to be able to continue each year. However, there are normally a couple of places available at the end of each term. Vacancies for these classes are sent out at the end of each 8 week block. Please join our mailing list to receive notification of these vacancies.
