During term time, weekly daytime and evening classes are held at Silverpetal Studio. These sessions run in 8 week ‘back to back’ blocks of afternoon (1.30-4pm) or evening sessions (6.30-9pm). These are non-directed open studio time sessions where students can progress at their own pace within a mixed ability group.

When are these classes?

Each session is for 2 and a half hours. Evening sessions are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Daytime sessions are held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Once you are enrolled on to a session you will be invited to carry on and enrol for following terms and be able to take advantage of any enrolment discounts.

evening jewellery making classes near sheffield

Entry requirements:

These are large classes of 12 so if you are a beginner please book on to our Beginner’s Silver Jewellery Class.  This is a short induction course for a smaller group of 6. Beginners need more support and the smaller class size ensures that you will get plenty of one to one help. On this course you will learn the basic skills for the subject and health and safety at the studio. This will enable you to join the larger class size without any problems.

If you have some prior ability within the subject you are welcome to join the term time sessions and may join anytime by booking the relevant class to suit.  If you are unsure which course would suit you best please e-mail to discuss your ability level via ‘contact us’ below.

How we learn:

These sessions are not tutor led, this means they are non-directed and unstructured. However, the studio offers a workbook led learning program from post beginner right through intermediate to advanced and challenging levels. Individuals may follow this program if they wish, working at their own pace adapting the projects to suit their own tastes. Individuals may also devise their own projects and work in their own way if they have sufficient skills. For either scenario, the tutor is on hand to help at all times.

What are Specialist Classes?

View our Specialist Classes here on our general courses page. These are one day workshops, designed to run along side these weekly studio workshop sessions. This enables an optional deeper study of a specific subject area for anyone keen to learn.

What to bring:

All tools and equipment are included so you don’t need to bring tools with you. However if you do want to bring your own tools please make sure they have distinguishing marks to identify them from the studio or other student’s tools. At Silverpetal we are well equipped with our custom built jewellery making studio. There is a vast range of metals including silver, gem-stones, findings, consumables and tools available to buy from the studio shop. Materials (like metals, solders and gem stones) and consumables (like emery paper, saw blades and drill bits) are extra and not included in the term fee. Please make sure means of payment – cash or cheque is brought to class.

Tumbling Service:

A tumbling service is offered to past and present students. There is access to a tumbler at the studio. However to avoid the constant drone created by a tumbler being switched on – all the time in the room, this is done elsewhere. Items are collected at the session end – and tumbled for a small fee per item. This is then ready for collection the following week. Past students are welcome to bring items for tumbling during term times. This will be tumbled for the same fees and ready for collection one week later.

Returning students who have studied with us in the past:

Past students are always welcome to come back to us. These classes are often full due to the priority given to existing students to be able to continue each year. However, there are normally a couple of places available at the end of each term. Vacancies for these classes are sent out at the end of each 8 week block. Please join our mailing list to receive notification of these vacancies.

The class for me is something I look forward to, seeing friends, bouncing ideas off each other and with help improving any techniques. I love making jewellery, seeing it come together and hopefully being happy with the result. The studio facilities are very good.

  2. Kate Singleton, Chesterfield

I’ve learned lots of traditional silversmith methods here in specialist classes; Stone setting, repousse, soldering, fold forming and much more. Ange has a well stocked supplies shop and offers monthly project specials and project worksheets. I love attending weekly classes and making my own silver jewellery, especially the compliments I get when wearing my creations.

  3. Kelvin, Chesterfield

Very informative and very professional teacher. Excellent classes for any level, I would recommend to anyone interested in jewellery making. FIVE STAR*****

  4. Kath Kearney, Chesterfield

I’ve been attending weekly evening classes at Silverpetal since September 2016,

Weekly classes are self paced with workbooks for beginners to help develop the skills needed to design your own jewellery. The workshop is really well equipped, and Ange is always on hand with support. There’s also a competitively priced shop with most of the tools/ materials you need to make silver or copper jewellery.

I’ve also attended a variety of specialist workshops held at the weekends (including wire working, stone setting, PMC, Soldering Masterclass, enamelling). Ange is an excellent tutor – courses are well planned in advance and class sizes are small to ensure that everyone gets the support they need. Absolutely recommended for anyone wishing to learn a new skill.

  5. Marie Wallace, Chesterfield

I’ve been attending evening classes here for some years now. The studio is well equipped with excellent facilities. Classes are a friendly affair and everyone works at their own speed, with Ange on hand with her expert advice and guidance. I’ve also attended a number of one day specialist courses. All great value for money.

  6. Jane Marshall, Chesterfield

Evening or afternoon lasses here are a great way to develop your skills. I started after attending a weekend taster workshop. You can work at your on pace and there are projects to develop your skills or you can explore your own ideas..Ange is always on hand with help and advice. Friendly atmosphere and super equipment to use.

  7. Natalie Smedley, Chesterfield

Really good facilities available in class a wide range of tools and equipment. Help on hand when required. Good value for money

  8. Alison, Chesterfield

I attend the weekly workshops at Silverpetal. I enjoy making the different pieces of jewellery following work packs and also creating my own ideas with Angela’s help. I have also attended the Stone setting and Fold forming classes. I enjoyed learning the new skills to make different designs and also how to use different tools that I had not used before. The classes were both taught at a good pace and with small numbers of people so plenty of support through the day.

  9. Kelvin, Chesterfield

Very informative and very professional teacher. Excellent classes for any level, I would recommend to anyone interested in jewellery making. FIVE STAR*****
