Description
What is cold enamel?
Cold Enamel is a wonderful way to easily add colour to your jewellery designs without the need or expense of a kiln. It comes in a wonderful array of inter-mixable colours, both opaque and translucent. Cold enamel can be used in different ways to compliment your work. It can be used to embed wires, findings and stones or beads in to your designs, minimising the need for soldering.
What will we do on the Cold Enamel day?
This one day workshop will introduce and show you how to use cold enamel at a basic level, providing you with the knowledge to carry on with the subject after the class.
In addition to the enamelling aspects, during this workshop we will look at easy ways to actually create textural and three dimensional jewellery that will contain the enamel. We will do this by using the fly-press to quickly create recessed areas in sheet metal. Then we will add texture to the surfaces using the rolling mill. We will also look at how to use the enamel in the actual construction of pieces of jewellery. You will also have the opportunity to enamel pieces that have been pre-made during weekly classes.
This class will provide you with your first steps into using cold enamel within your current jewellery practice. it will help practicing jewellers to see the creative potential of this exciting medium. This is an introduction to cold enamel at beginner’s level. However, you will need basic jewellery making knowledge, including soldering and basic bench tool skills in order to achieve success on the day.
What’s included?
All tools and equipment are included. The day will also include an extensive hand-out containing technical information regarding the technique of cold enamelling, how to mix the colours and the ratios involved for successful results. This is emailed to you following the class.
Materials are extra and payable on the day.

Kathy – from Belper –
Thoroughly enjoyed this course. It gave me the opportunity to add vibrant colours to silver or copper to produce jewellery. This was made by using the rolling mill and fly-press, we quickly made 4-6 pieces of jewellery to add the enamel to in the afternoon. Great surprise to see the fantastic finished products.
Doreen Mills, Sheffield –
A very enjoyable day – relaxing and informative. It was good to try an alternative to glass enamel – it’s useful to pre prepare some pieces in class if you can. The studio is nice with plenty of equipment.
