Product Description

Come along to one of our fold forming classes at Silverpetal Studio.

What is Fold Forming?

Fold forming is a revolutionary way of metalworking which explores the elasticity of metals to create unique three dimensional forms. This full day will look at a very brief history of the subject, the tools and studio equipment needed to be able to carry out the subject, and the folds themselves.

What will we do on the day?

Fold Forming

This necklace is made up of different fold forming techniques looked at during this class

During the class we will learn how to make several different folds. Starting from a simple fold and forged fold, we will advance through to more complex folds. Including; wedge, cross, boat, pinched and alternate folds. We will make a series of samples which can be made in to jewellery during your weekly class or at home after the course. This class will provide a wealth of knowledge and take the mystery out of fold forming. Making this a subject that is both accessible and enjoyable.

This is a  fantastic technique to learn. It will promote a more creative way of designing to give very unusual results. Fold forming will add a new dimension to your jewellery designs.

What is included?

This day class is from 10am until 3pm. Materials are extra and payable on the day. You are welcome to bring your own metals to work with and advice regarding what to bring can be provided beforehand on request. Lunch can be had either at the Hub Cafe by the canal or bring a pack-up. As with all Silverpetal Specialist Classes we will have tea and cakes in the afternoon.

Who can attend?

Fold Forming

Students from other centres, or individuals practising at home who have basic jewellery making skills, are welcome to attend.

It is up to you to make sure you book the correct course for your ability level. We do not offer refunds or transfers from specialist classes. Please call, e-mail or check the terms & conditions of booking if you are unsure.

Plenty of samples to make with instructions just at the right level (for me). The class is noisy so some may wish to bring some ear-plugs! Great class, really enjoyed it.

Fabulous day with a very knowledgeable teacher. Enough hand tools for everyone to have them without sharing. Have already completed projects at home (2 days later)

Loved every minute of this day. The nature of the technique means you’re not totally sure what you’ll end up with, but you will have loads of great samples to transform into finished pieces. As always, excellent tuition and studio space.

Another excellent course where we were introduced to several techniques for introducing folds to metal. We worked in copper which enabled us to experiment and kept the costs down. We came away with 8-9 samples which can be made into jewellery and I’m looking forward to trying these techniques on other designs. As usual an excellent booklet provided with details and clear photos of all the techniques so that we have something to refer back to. Recommended.

  19. Lorraine Sanderson, Eckington.

I’ve attended quite a few of Angela’s courses, this one really had the WOW factor. The sample pieces made show the variety of ways in which the technique can be used. Brilliant studio with plenty of equipment so no long queues to use anything. Brilliant tutor, knowledgeable, friendly and approachable, I feel very ‘at home’ in the studio. I will definitely be trying this technique at home and in the term time studio sessions.

  20. Thea Addison, Belper

I thoroughly enjoyed learning this new technique. A well structured session, easy steady pace, in a welcoming relaxed environment. Lots of hammering with some very satisfying pieces to take home. Highly recommend!
